Remembrance of the Daleks action figure set announced

Sylvester McCoy (The Doctor) poses with the redesigned Imperial Daleks

The 25th Anniversary series of Doctor Who was a return to greatness for the ailing program. What better way to ring in the 1988 series than with a Dalek adventure? Set in 1963, the adventure was penned by Ben Aaronovitch and was the first episode to reference the 1963 pilot episode Unearthly Child in some time and even a nod to Planet of the Daleks, creating a connection between the new and the old that had been lacking.

Sylvester McCoy had a rough first year on Doctor Who with some dodgey scripts written for an unknown actor as Colin Baker’s successor had not been cast when they were drafted. Even so, I think he fared quite well but the damage had been done as many fans deserted the program. Remembrance of the Daleks brought many viewers back to the fold and offered up a blockbuster program that saw not one but two warring armies of Daleks in London of the swinging 60’s.

Tight scripts, exciting action sequences and more fully developed characters than had been seen in ages, Remembrance of the Daleks was the turning point for Doctor Who in the 1980’s where it finally started to be a program worth watching again.

Character Options has announced a deluxe box set of action figures featuring four distinct Dalek designs. The set is the third Dalek box set in a line, the previous two representing Dalek designs from 1963’s Daleks all the way to 1973’s Planet of the Daleks. Fans have been hoping for another set as the previous two have been well received and are now very hard to come by. The only Dalek that has been previously available is the white Imperial Dalek that was packaged with Sylvester McCoy, which has also become very rare.

The Remembrance of the Daleks box set is a prime opportunity to build a Dalek army that celebrates one of the last great Dalek adventures.

Available in the U.K. via Forbidden Planet in October (no news on a US distributer).
