Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer

Spider-Man has traditionally been a comic book that was a reaction to the established ‘man in tights fighting evil’ published all over the place back in the 60’s. Rather than a dashing bachelor, Peter was an angst-ridden teenager. Instead of putting the bad guys in jail, Spider-Man would discover that the nature of evil was much more complicated as his villains were unmasked and revealed as close friends. His crime fighting career has been against a veritable horror show of goblins and man-machines, yet he has barraged them with self-aware quips rather than just taking them at face value.

In Mark Millar’s Marvel Knights Spider-Man series, one of the web spinner’s chief villains, Norman Osborn (who fought Spider-Man as the Green Goblin), was further developed. Millar hinted that Osborn’s government contacts were not coincidental and the man supervillains that appeared at the same time were all connected to his development of a secret project. This retroactive continuity style of writing can be heavy handed, but I think that Millar’s story is an exception to this and connected the dots in a way that made Osborn into a supervillain in or out of costume, paving the way for the character’s path in the years to come.

It appears that Marc Webb has read this series (and good thing, too) since the trailer makes the same case and includes Peter’s father in Osborn’s mad scientist lair of monster weapons. I think this is a great direction to take the new revised theatrical Spider-Man franchise rather than the traditional character-driven film we have seen time and time again. However, this first glimpse looks more like a video game than a movie. I am hoping that the negative response online will prompt the production company to revisit the effects before the film is released.

Sony Pictures has released the teaser trailer for director Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and you can watch it in the player below! Swinging into theaters on May 2, 2014, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Campbell Scott, Embeth Davidtz, Colm Feore, Paul Giamatti and Sally Field.

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: Oscorp.
