The 50th anniversary of Doctor Who also marks the final days of the Doctor Who Classic DVD line, with the last of the complete stories soon to be available on disc along with a few surprises.

The Green Death: Special Edition – 5 AugustDoctorWho_GreenDeath

BOSS rules over a massive corporation threatening to destroy the human race with an excess of poisonous sludge, transforming harmless maggots into massive monsters. One of the most enduring Third Doctor adventures, Green Death will receive the special edition treatment.

Along with enhanced sound and image, there are additional extras including a retrospective featuring former new series head writer/producer Russell T Davies and BBC Controller of Drama Jane Tranter as well as ‘The Death of the Doctor’ from the Sarah Jane Smith Adventures.

The Ice Warriors -26 AugustIceWarriors

The second ice age threatens to crush the surviving human race under a cold blanket of extinction. The Doctor arrives after an expeditionary crew have unearthed what they think is a fossil of some kind, but instead it is a frozen invader from the dying planet Mars.

The Patrick Troughton era is often cited as one of the most iconic and influential of the program’s history. With so many of the stories missing parts of entirely, there are few opportunities for fans to enjoy these classic adventures. Thanks to the hard work of the animation team, the Ice Warriors can be viewed in completion.

Scream of the Shalka -16 SeptemberAnimated Dr #9 (REG)

Before Doctor Who returned in 2005, there was another rebirth in the form of this animated story starring Richard E Grant as a new incarnation of the Doctor. A four part adventure by fan favorite Paul Cornell (Father’s Day), Scream of the Shalka is an oddity that missed much of fandom and remains a view of what possibly could have been.

Tom Baker is menaced by Zygons

On the moors of Scotland, there are strange events that prompt the Brigadier to call in the services of Doctor, pulling him out of the time and pace vortex and into a web of intrigue. One of the most memorable and frightening of the classic adventures, Terror of the Zygons is brimming with startling moments and unnerving imagery.

This will also mark the final release of the Forth Doctor played by Tom Baker and will also be released in a special Time Capsule edition.

Moonbase – 21st Octoberthe-moonbase

A startling sequel to their first appearance in the Tenth Planet, Moonbase took the Doctor Who team to the moon where they encountered a horrifying invasion of the silver giants. While it can be said that the Cybermen have not had the best track record on screen and are often presented as second rate filler creatures who are as dull as they are cold, in this story viewers witnessed them lurking in the shadows, stealing bodies in the night.

One of my personal favorites, it is fortunate that this story will finally get the special attention it deserves, along with animated sequences filling in the gaps of missing parts.

The Tenth Planet – 18th NovemberCyberman_TenthPlanet_Model

The final adventure of the First Doctor Who, the introduction of the Cybermen and the first instance in which the Doctor appears to die only to return as a new man. There are few Doctor Who stories that are so full of iconic moments as this one. It’s also a cracking good story with plenty of tension and super creepy monsters.
