2001 A Space Odyssey HAL Replica
“Good morning gentlemen. I am a HAL 9000 computer…”

One of the most memorable villains in cinema history wasn’t even human. The murderously psychotic computer HAL 9000 was listed as the 13th greatest film villain in the AFI’s 100 Years… 100 Heroes and Villains. HAL’s calm, confident voice would both assure you that everything was going according to plan and let you know that you had to die.

“I think you know what the problem is, just as well as I do.”

But as iconic as HAL’s imagery is, there has never been an absolutely authentic replica that fans could display in their own home… until now…

Artifactory’s HAL 9000 replica is composed of CNC-machined aluminum, and is recreated directly from the original 1967 studio blueprints! HAL’s glass “eye” has been replicated in optical-grade glass, copied from the lens used on the original prop!

The replica also features 15 different phrases which can be activated via several user-selectable modes. Production on this incredible replica is strictly limited, so act fast of HAL will be gone forever!

Dimensions (13.6″x4.6″x1″) are identical to the original prop. One (1) 9 volt battery included.

  1. Best wishes for a better New Year, Mr Daily POP.
Ah, HAL 9000 my brother. A much misunderstood machine; yes he may have murdered people, yes he may have been creepy, but, my, *what* a singing voice “Daisy, daisy…”! 🙂
Star Trek The Next Generation Season Two, not great and devoid of Beverly Crusher but there’s some pretty good episodes and Diana Muldaur’s Dr Pulaski is an interesting if awkward addition. Then there’s the so bad it’s bad Samaritan Snare which has to be seen to be despised, still even that’s better than the atrocious (50) Shades of Gray. Yet Q Who?; weird ’60s throwback The Royale; Measure of a Man; Elementary, Dear Data; The Emissary et al are worth any Trekker’s time or any fan of entertaining if flawed tv come to that.
Sad to hear of Peter David’s stroke, I will him swift recovery.

  2. I figured you would reply to a Hal reference!

I haven’t picked up TNG season 2 yet… am watching season 1, though. I like Beverly Crusher… but I also liked Pulaski… and always argued that Pulaski was written as a more credible Chief Medical Officer than Crusher ever was. If only they had written Crusher better… it’s like they kept having to keep her “hot” on the show at the expense of credible at her job… while Pulaski they didn’t bother as much with romance… and let me say that Diana Muldaur was older on TNG, but in her younger days and on the original Star Trek she could give Ms Crusher a run for her money in the looks dept as well.

I commented in another forum, though… regarding season one… and how as I watch now for the first time in many years… I am surprised at just how many times Tasha Yar casually drops in a reference to “rape gangs”… really, I did not remember that being an almost weekly reference and so casual as well… also the semi-creepy episode where Riqer (Riker with the power of Q) turns Wesley into an adult… and Geordi is the one who says “not bad Wesley”… it just seemed creepy.

And since there’s no transition from that… I had not heard about Peter David either. Hope he makes a swift recovery.

  3. SJV: Regarding HAL (or Hals), You know me too well…
I watched Hide and Q a few months ago but I missed Geordi saying *that* :). Oh, Geordi isn’t it time you came out! Weird how real-world Wil Wheaton looks just like an older version of his younger self while Riqer(the puns are still strong in you I see)-aged Wesley looks like a himbo. That’s an odd episode altogether tho’; it rather irritatingly sticks to the Star Trek notion that given god-like powers any human would just *have* to screw it up. I know Riker can be a bit dense but having him suddenly start giving everyone there most deeply-held desires (which are – Geordi’s apart – pretty stupid) makes him look like a moron, all the better to present Picard as wise rather than arrogant and petulant. There’s no real consideration that – Q’s obvious assholery apart – Riqer could use his powers responsibly and well which is annoying.
I quite liked Pulaski except for when they made her *too* unfeeling and uncomfortably bitchy; I felt that the problem with Beverly wasn’t that they concentrated on her “hotness” but that they couldn’t be bothered to write for her, there was no problem with the *character* just that they were not concerned to emphasise her interesting qualities. Troi was not unhot but she got a disproportionate amount of storylines later on while Beverley got crap like Suspicions or – argh! – Sub Rosa. Boo!
I hope PAD recovers soon too, it would be awful enough at any time – but Christmas? Terrible. I wish him luck.
    Still, Happy New Year SJV!

  4. Thanks for the info again. The create your own action figure kit will be great for my son if I can find it near me. I’ve been doing some repaints and customs of duplicate figures he has (example, I turned a duplicate captain america into US Agent). He loves them, and this will be perfect.
