Comments on: Tom Baker returns to Doctor Who for 50th

If Tom Baker doesn’t appear, I won’t care. However, I worry about the script and how Moffat will make Tom look. Give me a great story with Tom playing a huge, substantial role as the 4th Doctor and I will be quite satisfied. You can’t have the 50th Anniversary of Who without the actor who played the character best and brought upon Worldwide success for the show. After all, it is only his stories that I physically own. And there are plenty of good reasons for that. Although, I do like the first 3 doctor’s and a majority of their stories too. There were some good stories after 1981 but the golden era of the show really died when Tom Baker left.

But SJV, if you’re the Lone Ranger who’s Tonto? Those comments are…uh *interesting*. I could do without the “lols” but even some of the more hilarious and hysterically bughouse ones make good points about Moffat’s obsession with River Song (his representative in Who?) amongst other things. Yes, late the hate flood through you young ones!
However, regarding the commentator criticizing Tom Baker for appearing in one of Moffat’s crappy stories, has he forgotten Tom was in Underworld, Destiny of the Daleks and The Creature from the Pit?

I should point out that the comments on the linked story are so full of bile that they are hilarious:

“Every word that spewed out of her gross mouth during the Wedding of River Song had NOTHING to do with Real Love! Every laughable word that came out of that sick fools mouth was utter rubbish! Her sick moronic character is NOT in love with the Dr but obsessed. Much like Moffat is obsessed with this sick vile repulsive character! lol

Sociopaths do become obsessed with a person and WILL do anything to protect them. So she still very much fits the definition of a sociopath. Children now days are so poorly educated.”

“And here is Moffat-The-Moron acting like this puke of a character is the greatest character ever when the reality is, she is A NIGHTMARE! She ruins EVERY story she is in.

And now Tom is willingly to disgrace and embarrass his Doctor incarnation by appearing in one of Moffat’s dull, lifeless, fast-paced, lots of special effects, but hardly any Real Plot stories?!”

Thanks for visiting. Yes, all of these rumors require a grain of salt… or more.

I do appreciate the clarification but compared to certain other actors, McCoy has actually done quite well even with only those two credits to his name post-1989. Hartnell’s last acting job was on Doctor Who while Troughton’s career as a celebrated actor in film and TV continued for some time and of course Pertwee played Worzel Gummidge.

Hmm, an article in The Daily Express (home of Princess DI conspiracy theories) which uses a “show insider” as its source doesn’t exactly convince me, as much as I want it to happen.

Just a little niggle: Although Sylvester McCoy has been cast as Radagast in The Hobbit, and played the Fool opposite Ian McKellan’s King Lear on stage five years ago. One can hardly call his post-Doctor career a success.

Interesting.

Although… since the same article mentions the “next season might be Matt Smith’s last” rumor… I don’t know what to make of it. Matt Smith has gone on record saying next year is not his last year… so that would appear to be half the article’s rumor debunked.

I would love to see the old Doctors… though Tom is the surprising one… he is the least explainable changed physically actor to try and reprise the role. I can explain most of the others with little effort… but Tom looks the most unexplainable drastically different.

Although… if they make it part of the story that someone is ripping Doctors out of time and it is causing damage… then they could probably work it out.
