First look at Wolverine: Origins the Game

Posted by dailypop on February 14, 2009

At the recent New York Comic Con, Raven Software’s Dan Vondrak was on hand to debut footage from the upcoming video game based on the X-Men Origins: Wolverine film.

Fans were ecstatic over the footage and bubbling with questions. As ids usually the case, the game will expand upon the story line told in the movie, adding sequences to flesh out the game, but also attempting to capture the spirit of the movie. As players utilize Wolverine in different ways, he will automatically upgrade in specific ways based upon the gameplay. Aside from all that, the game will feature sequences influences from a variety of sources, including the classic comic books.

When asked to cite an example, Vondrak stated pointed out one where “Wolverine’s fight with the Hellfire Club and the Hellfire guards. A scene from the upcoming movie, where he runs up to guards in the hallway and stabs both at the same time. There is a finishing move in the game where you kill two downed enemies at one time.” Yet this sounds hauntingly similar to a classic Byrne/Claremont issue, doesn’t it?

Yet the biggest surprise was the footage shown of the wily Canadian facing off against a MK I Sentinel in a stockyard. The crowd went nuts, and with good reason. This being the fourth (kinda) X-Men film, it would be nice to finally see our hero battle the mutant hunting robots, wouldn’t it?
