Usually I am directing readers to buy new comics, DVDs and the like, but on the biggest shopping day of the year, I would like to suggest we all do otherwise. Rather than buy your Uncle a James Bond DVD box set he may never watch or a pink nylon ski coat for your cousin who lives in Florida, why not give it a rest and help out others?
I’m not exactly out to applaud the demise of the retailers, but after reading about a Walmart employee getting trampled to death by shoppers desperate for first dibs on the goods I really have to question what this ‘Holiday Spirit’ all about.
Call your loved ones, send your friends a card, get a gift if you absolutely must but please don’t kill a guy for a cheap TV.
While it may seem unnatural to go all ‘cold turkey’ on the gift-giving thing, I’m asking that each reader investigate one local or national charity and make a contribution this year. We may be making less money, but if we can afford a $3.99 comic book we can afford to help someone else out.
And that’s the end of my rant.
