The Knauff brothers (Daniel & Charles of HBO’s Carnivale fame and in comics with their magnificent run on Iron Man) have released a stellar Captain America one shot with rising star artist Mitch Breitweiser (Captain America: The Chosen and Drax the Destroyer). The first in a series of one shots similar in concept to the work being done in Thor, this is a comic that anyone can pick up, regardless of their continuity knowledge of Secret Skrull Invasion score card.
Featuring a much harder Cap than we are used to seeing, the Theater of War comic focuses on a top secret operation. A Tommy-gun toting Cap charges straight into a Nazi base to put an end to a Flying Saucer project and finds that there is far more at stake than anyone imagines by discovering that there are also prisoners being held in the facility.
In typical Captain America fashion, the super soldier single-handedly takes down the top secret war craft, frees the prisoners and destroys the base. In addition to the sci-fi aircraft, the super-villain wannabe The Butcher.
With the recent loss of classic Captain America Steve Rogers in Marvel Comics, it is heartening to see the character back in print, even if only for a flashback tale.
