As a kid in the 1970′s, the world was a veritable cornucopia of toys.
When toy manufacturer Mego released the a line of miniature ‘pocket-sized’ action figures to fill my toychest with. These figures were unique in that they were both Marvel Comics and DC Comics characters. Yeah, they look like they’re dancing and appear to more or less be the same figure painted in different colors… but I loved these guys back in the day.
Hell, I still love them!
It seems that I am living in a second golden age of wonder as DC Comics unveiled their miniature action figure line entitled Infinite Heroes. Loosely based on the recent comics that have sought to breath new life into the comic company, this Infinite Heroes line ranges a strangely unique gallery of characters rarely seen in toy form. To add some spice to the line, there are even three-packs of Thanagarian Wingmen, Gotham Policemen and evil robotic Manhunters. Pocket-sized and reasonably priced, these guys are very tempting!
Yet I find the Marvel 3.75 inch liner of action figures even more appealing. The Infinite Heroes toys are fun, but a little crude-looking for my taste. These Marvel Comics figures are sharp! Featuring the latest designs of some of Marvel’s most popular heroes, I have yet to see these toys on the shelf.
But when I do… hoo boy!
Say what you will about the DC Direct line of action figures and the Marvel Legends line, I have a feeling that these smaller toys could very easily take the lead in grabbing the attention of toy collectors.
I wonder if kids will like them… do children still play with toys?
