James Bond- ‘Quantum of Solace’

Posted by dailypop on July 2, 2008

Building on the success of the slam-bang revisionary film ‘Casino Royal,’ I am shocked to notice that the 22nd James Bond film, ‘Quantum of Solace’(so named for that elusive peace that Bond seeks in overcoming the loss of a loved one), will soon hit theaters.

Quantum of Solace

Developing the ideas of the Cold War pulp novels to fit in the present setting of global terror, the movie looks to be another knock out. Taking hints from past enemy organization ‘SPECTRE,’ the new baddie ‘Quantum’ is a worldwide organization on the level of GI Joe’s Cobra or Marvel Comic’s Hydra, with its influences spreading into MI6 and the CIA.

The theme of shadowy villains is joined by one of bloody revenge as Bond seeks revenge for the murder of his lover Vesper Lynd in the previous film, ‘Casino Royal.’ This kind of joining one film to the next has not been attempted since the conclusion of cult favorite and little known ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’ and the follow-up ‘Diamonds Are Forever.’ This is a great idea and will surely bring in new viewers to a franchise of films that is experiencing an unprecedented renaissance.

Quantum of Solace will be released on 7/7/08.

I for one would be very excited if they could release new Bond films every other year or so (similar to the rigor with which the 60s-80s films hit theaters). The only set back for me with the new version is Dame Dench, I’m on the fence about her in the role. The Aston DB-9, on the other hand, I could watch do just about anything; I’m looking forward to seeing it in naked pin up shots or making ice cream.
