Amazing Spider-Man #545 - The End Of An Era

Posted by dailypop on August 7, 2007

The following image (cover of Amazing Spider-Man 545) is currently being delivered by Marvel Comics along with the phrase ‘The End of an Era.’

I imagine that it is related to the desire by the current editorial staff at Marvel Comics to remove the clunky marriage angle to the character. Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesda has said numerous times that Spider-Man being married to super-model Mary Jane Watson destroys his underdog/everyman status.

Given Marvel Comics‘ track-record of tragedies lately, I don’t think Mary Jane will bow out cleanly.

And whose hand is that on the cover?

This sounds like a disaster in the making. Its not about him going back to a supermodel, its about a man coming home to a sense of love and companionship.

I think it says more about the creators that they cannot think of any decent stories concerning married couples, don’t you?

I agree, it seems like lazy writing and i hope it blows up in their faces.

I long for the days when Spidey returns to his romps of athletic friendship with Iceman.

I love how they all hung out in that one apartment over Aunt May’s house. And it’s the only love triangle story line that has ever worked for me. But it wasn’t just the heroes…

Everyone wanted to date sweet Angelica Jones.
