Superman/Doomsday

Posted by dailypop on July 9, 2007

As many of you well know, Warner Brothers and DC Animation is hard at work transforming their most famous stories into full blown animated feature films.

This Fall, the first project will be released, Superman/Doomsday, telling the tale of death, resurrection and destruction that took many a fanboy an entire summer in 1993 to read but you can watch it in about an hour and a half.

It’s the comic book equivalent of all those Jane Austen movies.

The Making of Superman/Doomsday

The crew is top notch. Bruce Timm, creator of the Batman, Superman, Batman Beyond and Justice League animated series is at the helm, so I’m sure it will be a blockbuster film. The best part is that you won’t even have to stand in line to see as it’s going to be a straight to DVD release.

If nothing else, it’s sure to be better than the old Super NES/Sega game that accompanied the comic book series.

I do miss the days when video games coincided with comic book story lines.

It was a magical time.

Death and Return of Superman-Sega-Style

story MIKE ALLRED
art & cover MIKE ALLRED

852 PAGES – Full Color 125.00 -
Limited Signed & Numbered Edition – $150.00

Many readers are only now discovering the wonder that is Snap City, the zaniness that is Frank Einstein, the odor that might be ‘Madman.’

Begun in the dark times of the 1990’s, Mike Allred’s indie super hero comic book with a bent toward the absurd has grown in the passing years as has its creator. Finally there is an enormous collection to terrify your friends with.

This collection includes the whole enchilada, from MADMAN to MADMAN ADVENTURES to MADMAN COMICS in one massively oversized hardcover book.

The special collection will be limited to 2500 copies and will not be reprinted in this format, so expect to share of you don’t act fast.

Also available in a signed and numbered edition signed by MIKE ALLRED and strictly limited to 300 copies.

COLLECTS MADMAN #1-3, MADMAN ADVENTURES #1-3 and MADMAN COMICS #1-20, plus the MADMAN SUPER KING-SIZE GROOVY SPECIAL and huge batch of bonus material and surprises!

INTERSECTIONS
art & cover DUNCAN FEGREDO & Sean Phillips
96 PAGES – Full Color – $14.99 Soft Cover $34.99 Limited edition Hard Cover
Conceived during a repast of fine wine and nouvelle cuisine, INTERSECTIONS is the meeting of two artistic minds.

Sean Phillips (MARVEL ZOMBIES, CRIMINAL) and DUNCAN FEGREDO (HELLBOY, ENIGMA) play artistic ping pong with a sketchbook – a drawn and painted conversation where punctuation is provided by the postal service.

Can you read between the paintings?
Intersections: A visual dialogue between Sean Phillips and DUNCAN FEGREDO.

Intersections: The sequential conclusion to an excess of curry and beer.

The special limited edition signed and numbered hardcover is a must have for Phillips and FEGREDO fans!

GØDLAND, VOL. 3: PROTO-PLASTIC PARTY TP
story JOE CASEY
art TOM SCIOLI
cover TOM SCIOLI & RICHARD STARKINGS

152 PAGES – Full Color – $14.99

I’ve been thrilling to the adventures of Adam Archer for only a short time. I’m one of those ‘wait for the trade’ guys that is constantly threatening the medium of monthly comics.

But this series is a real jewel.

From the pen of Xeric Award winning artist Tom Scioli, comes a series that is so in tune with Jack Kirby’s creations that you might mistake it for an old Kirby comic long forgotten. But it’s not. Writer Joe Casey has joined Scioli to unleash one of the most free-wheeling comic book series anyone has seen.

From irradiated skulls floating in vats of cosmic liquid to a gigantic space-dog who shares the mysteries of the universe named Maxim… you need to but this book.

It reminds me of the good old days when I’d sweep up an armful of comics at Million Year Picnic in Harvard Square and retire to Shay’s for a burger and a beer to read them all… my comics are very messy.

This book COLLECTS GØDLAND #13-18.

Suggested Reading:

Madman Gargantua
Madman Adventures
Intersections
Godland Volume 1: Hello, Cosmic! (Godland)
Godland Volume 2: Another Sunny Delight (Godland)
Godland Volume 3: Proto-Plastic Party
Godland Celestial Edition

Batman villains in The Dark Knight

Posted by dailypop on July 9, 2007

The story on the upcoming Batman movie, the Dark Knight, is that Batman will be locking horns with not only the Joker and the gangster Gamble (as mentioned here), but more!

Some time ago it became known that Anthony Michael Hall had been cast in a ‘mystery role.’

The online message boards are still a flutter trying to figure out who the one time Brat Pack-member will be, but my money is on a simple bet.

On May 21st, Anthony Michael Hall told the media: “I signed a confidentiality agreement, and I can’t say which part I’m playing because it affects the story. I can’t give away the suspense — it’s a $200 million surprise, and I don’t want to be the guy to ruin it … It’s really a great role. I’m in throughout the whole movie, and I’m really looking forward to working with Christian and Morgan and all these real Hollywood heavy hitters.”

The story is now complicated by the rumor that actor Aaron Eckhart has been seen on the set in Two Face makeup.

Uh-oh…

Still no sign of Harvey Kietel dressed up as the Mad Hatter or Jewel in a Catwoman outfit, right?
