There’s a new rumor in town that famed film actor Dennis Hopper will be starring in series 4 of Doctor Who which begins filming soon.
Apparently, Hopper is a big fan of the program and would like to battle the Doctor as a super villain.
Renowned for his electric presence and unpredictable energy, Dennis Hopper has starred in such classics as Easy Rider, Apocalypse Now, Rumble Fish and Blue Velvet.
In recent years, Hopper has been featured moreso on TV than film, in programs such as FOX TV’s 24. Under contractual obligation, he will also appear in the 3rd Speed film ‘Highway to Hell’ to reprise his phone talking villain, Howard Payne, pitting his wits against Keanue Reeves. I’m not sure who to pity more, him or us.
While Hopper is a very ‘NY method’-style actor to put in Doctor Who, in trying to see how he would fit into the program the amazing Doctor Who actor Kevin Stoney immediately springs to mind.
Stoney played both Mavic Chen in The Dalek’s Master Plan in 1965 and later returned to play the conniving Tobias Vaughn in The Invasion in 1968. Stoney was an intense and captivating actor who portrayed (in both of his appearances on the program) a superb villain that you ‘loved to hate.’
Here his evilness is celebrated in song
Properly directed, Dennis Hopper could definitely add that level of menace to the program.
